To the Editor:
I know no one wants to be “castigated” for three hours by everyone from a 5th grader to a senior citizen. Still, I believe the BBOED in many ways brought all of this on themselves. How so?
It begins with the lack of a teachers’ contract for five out of the last six years due to “no money.” How did the board arrive at this decision? Was this an early sign that something was amiss in accounting?
It continued with the renovation of bathrooms, fixing the gym floors, purchasing furniture for students in select parts of the campus (never special education), and constructing “another” elevator in the main building. How was this all accomplished in a short time with “no money?” Did the board think the funds were accountable?
Finally, there was the “massive” layoff of well-qualified, caring, dedicated, and upstanding teachers. How will a thorough and efficient education system be maintained and calm the fears of students, parents, and the community? Did the board use as its one source the now departed accountant?
Based on recent decisions by the board feedback from the citizens, it appears to be a vote of no confidence. I therefore ask Dr. Michael Wanko to solicit numbers from the Business Office, statistics from Guidance Departments (save our counselors too), and advice from Legal Affairs. This would avoid a chaotic situation starting July 1.
