Jersey City man fatally shot near MLK Drive

JERSEY CITY – Alshaakir Talmadge, 20, of Jersey City, who suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body during an incident near the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street, was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center on June 14.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez Jersey City police officers on June 14 at approximately 10:10 p.m., responded to the area on a report of a male gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, the responding police officers found a victim on the sidewalk near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street. Talmadge was unresponsive and was immediately treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.
He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center by EMS where medical treatment continued. He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:40 p.m.
The cause and manner of his death are pending an investigation by the Medical Examiner. No arrests have been made and the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
