Police need help in sexual assault investigation

On Sunday June 4, at approximately 1 a.m., police officers were dispatched to the area of Second and Madison streets on a report of an assault. The officers arrived and found a 38-year-old female victim who explained that she was walking home when she was approached and allegedly grabbed from behind by an unknown male.

“This male unsuccessfully attempted to assault the victim by grabbing her and touching her in an inappropriate manner,” according to the press release from the Hoboken Police Department.

The victim was able to fight off her alleged attacker and call for help and didn’t suffer any serious physical injuries.

The victim described the alleged attacker as wearing all black clothing and last seen running west on Second Street.

The Hoboken Police Department also released a photo of a man who was near the scene of the incident who they believe is a person of interest.

The Police Department also asks those in the area of the crime scene during the time that may have information on the identity of the man or any information on the crime to contact the Hoboken Police Department at (201)420-2100 or contact Detective Arturo Gonzalez at (201)420-2108. Woman arrested in wee hours for alleged DWI

On Sunday June 11 at 2:50 a.m. North Bergen resident Natalie Sharpe, 34, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and refusal to submit to a breathalyzer. 

Officers Roberto Cuevas, Tyrone Huggins, and Sergeant Edmond Drishti were dispatched to the area of 1600 Willow Ave. on a report of a dispute. The officers arrived to find a male and female couple outside of a white 2016 Nissan parked in a lane of traffic.

Drishti was able to observe the female allegedly staggering with no shoes towards the vehicle she claimed she was driving.

Cuevas was able to observe the driver with watery eyes and detected the odor of alcohol allegedly coming from her.

An on-scene field sobriety test was conducted by Cuevas which Sharpe allegedly failed to perform.

She was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. At headquarters she refused to provide a breath sample and was subsequently charged. She was later released to a responsible party after being treated at the Hoboken University Medical Center.

Jersey City residents charged in connection to assault by auto

28-year-old Jersey City resident Steven Wooten was arrested on Sunday June 11 at 3:20 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, leaving the scene of an accident, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving, being an unlicensed driver, possession of marijuana in a vehicle, reckless driving, and assault by auto.

Jamal Richardson, 28, of Jersey City was also arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a press release from the Hoboken Police Department officers responded to the area of 533 Washington St. on a report of of a loud commotion. The officers arrived to find a female victim on the ground. The victim had been struck by a 2007 Honda and the driver had allegedly fled the scene on foot leaving a passenger inside the car.

The driver was found and apprehended a short distance away by Stevens Campus Sergeant Craig Morrissey and was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing.

At the scene of the accident, Officer Frank Francolino was able to detect a strong odor coming from the inside of the passenger side of the vehicle prior to impoundment.  Jamal Richardson was released on a summons.

At headquarters, a field sobriety test was conducted on Wooten. He was later released to a responsible party.

The victim was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center for her injuries, which were not life threatening.

Alleged heroin user arrested at CVS

On Friday, June 9 at 9:19 p.m. Guttenburg resident Jacob Angarita, 23, was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, and possession of a hypodermic needle. 

Officers Kyle Seper and Steven Albert were dispatched to CVS at 59 Washington St. on a report of someone locked in the restroom. The officers arrived and were told by staff the male was allegedly behaving in an erratic manner and would not exit the restroom.

The officers entered and removed the defendant from the restroom where they allegedly found heroin and cocaine along with a syringe. 

He was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. Due to the defendant’s erratic behavior, he was transported to the Hoboken University Medical Center for treatment. He was later given a summons for the offenses.

Homeless man charged with possession

On Friday June 6 at 5:39 p.m. police arrested homeless person Lonnie Maldonado, 40. 

Maldonado was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and bail jumping.

Officer David Dimartino was on patrol in the area of Second and Jackson streets when he observed the Maldonado stop and allegedly reach into his pocket. The officer observed Maldonado allegedly take a glass pipe out of his pocket and place something in it, and attempt to light it up with a lighter.

Dimartino recognized this act as someone attempting to allegedly smoke crack cocaine, approached the defendant, and ordered him to place the pipe on the ground.

He was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. He was later remanded to the Hudson County facility.
