Bayonne woman charged in alleged attack on father of her child in Jersey City

A Bayonne woman has been charged with allegedly assaulting the father of her child outside a 7-Eleven store in Jersey City in early June, according to police. With the help of three men, Marisol Velez, 31, of East 36th Street in Bayonne, allegedly used pepper spray and beat up the man at about 2:30 a.m. on June 3 at a corner store on Clinton Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, according to the criminal complaint.
The man told police that the three men got out of the car and allegedly punched and kicked him, while Velez allegedly sprayed pepper spray in his face.
He then drove to a nearby gas station, allegedly followed by the group who continued their attack, according to the complaint.
When he finally escaped, the man drove to the intersection of Summit and Sip Avenue, where he called his girlfriend, who met him there and drove him to the West District Police Station.
Velez disputes the allegations, telling NJ Advance Media last week that her argument with him allegedly occurred over the phone, and that she allegedly pepper sprayed him in a store after he charged at her, without the three men present. Velez was later arrested and made her first appearance on charges of aggravated assault this week in Criminal Justice Reform Court in Jersey City. Velez was released with conditions of supervision pending trial and is forbidden from having contact with the alleged victim, according to reports.
