Mayor Steven Fulop joined principals from Nest Micro Apartments on Thursday for the groundbreaking ceremony for the first private non-subsidized new construction building to offer furnished studio units under 300 square feet in the New York City metro area since the 1980s.
Nest Micro’s 122 fully-furnished apartments will start at under $1,300 with the use of smart design and transformable furniture that maximizes every inch, creating homes that function like those twice the size. All residents of the building at Academy Street between Summit and Baldwin will have access to amenities including coffee house/lounge, on-site laundry facilities, bike storage, gym, roof deck lounge with a grill and outdoor showers, and storage units, while its location is central for those who work, play and dine in Jersey City and Manhattan.
“Today’s young professional is achieving success in the workforce before reaching the financial threshold to move out of their parents’ houses unless they want to live with multiple roommates,” said Keith Schwebel, CEO of KSNY. “Nest Apartments are priced so that they can live autonomously and with dignity with a quick commute to work in Manhattan or other parts of New Jersey within a vibrant Nest community”
“Jersey City’s Journal Square is the perfect location for micro apartments, offering cultural immersion in city centers, nearby to great dining and entertainment and outdoor activities,” said Ken Sato, CEO of Strategic Properties.
Residents will be within walking distance to transportation to New York City through the Journal Square PATH train, and walking, Citi Bike or a short cab ride distance from popular areas of Jersey City including Grove St., The Waterfront, and Little India.
Smart Living Development, LLC, formed by KSNY and Strategic Properties, received construction permits for Nest Micro and projects with leasing to commence in August 2018.
