Dear Editor:
Written as a poem by Francis Scott Key, he wrote the words as he watched the bombardment of Ft. M‘Henry in Baltimore Bay, as a prisoner on a British War frigate during war of 1812.
The British has burnt down the capital at Washington and marched toward Maryland they shelled the fort with near 200 bombs. Then all thru the night, key could see bombs and rockets bursting in air.
Finally by dawns early light, key saw the great flag still flying. He first called the Poem “ the Defense of Fort Henry” they applied a popular British drinking song “ Anchorge in Heaven Music” to his poem congress approved the anthem in 1931.
Sincerely,
Jack O’Brien
