Kennedy Dancers to perform in Summer DanceFest at the J. Owen Grundy Pier on Thursday evenings

JERSEY CITY – The Kennedy Dancers Repertory Company, a professional non-profit dance company based in Jersey City, will perform in Summer Dance, sponsored by the City of Jersey City Department of Cultural Affairs, on Thursday July 20, July 27 and Aug. 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.at the J. Owen Grundy Pier, at the foot of Exchange Place, Jersey City.
Performances are FREE to the public.
The summer concert series will feature new repertory pieces. “Dancing with Duke Ellington” is an homage to the music sound and style of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s and includes “Take the A Train,” “Black Beauty,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” “In a Sentimental Mood,” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing.”
Choreography is by artistic Director Diane Dragone with contributing choreographies by Bong Dizon and Eli Cano.
Other works will include “Wild Women of the 20th Century” choreographed by Dragone, celebrating Carmen Miranda, Josephine Baker, and Little Egypt. The evening includes performances by the Kennedy Dancers Inner City Youth, a teen peer-professional company with several teens from ages 11-28, scholarship students who study 10 hours of dance weekly, and also repertory choreographies of the Kennedy Dancers Repertory Company.
The Kennedy Dancers is a non-profit Jersey City Based Professional, American Dance Company established in 1976 with a mission of bringing high quality dance training and professional performance opportunities to the NY/NJ Metro area. Since its inception, the company has grown to respond to the community’s special needs serving low income/at risk/incarcerated teens/senior citizens through diverse dance classes offering fun/fitness/performance opportunities.
