The city of West New York has a variety of events planned for the rest of summer 2017, from a street renaming to veterans events and free movies.
Mayor Felix Roque and the Board of Commissioners began the summer series with a vigil and call to action on July 5 at Donnelly Park in 60th Street and Boulevard East. Close to 200 people were in attendance for the vigil including Jessica Pereira, a host on the morning show of La Mega.
July 5 was the 206th Anniversary of the Independence of Venezuela. The Town of West New York found it fitting to honor the Venezuelan people as they struggle for the freedoms that our forefathers fought for during the American Revolution.
“It is important to recognize and discuss the recent tension in Venezuela that has resulted in the death of dozens of people in protest related violence since April as they seek to rid themselves of a dictatorship that is destroying the fabric of the Venezuelan people,” said Mayor Roque. “The Town of West New York stands with the people of Venezuela who remain in Venezuela and with those here in the United States who yearn for peace in their homeland.”
