WEEHAWKEN — A man with a farm near the Lincoln Tunnel is claiming Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner and officials are allegedly opposing his wishes to develop it because he did not support Turner’s 2002 election, according to CBS New York.
Konstantinos Natsis, whose Park Ave. property is near the tunnel entrance, told the media outlet the mayor allegedly has a personal vendetta against him. He told CBS New York that because the township allegedly won’t allow him to develop the land, he wants to clean it up. However, he alleges, Weehawken is not allowing him to do that either, CBS New York reported.
Natsis was not available at the property Friday afternoon for comment. However, the property did have a sign accusing an unspecified entity of “illegal dumping.” “We want[ed] to clean the sidewalk and the parking lot area for many years for the public’s safety but we are forbidden because we are in federal court,” the sign read. The owner, according to another sign on the property, is seeking to hire a contractor to clean up the soil.
One of the signs also asked passersby to view a YouTube video, titled, “Weehawken Fight,” for more information.
That video — which claims Natsis and his wife purchased the property in 2000 — said that the township allegedly performed sewer work on the area in 2004 to get it in compliance with a so-called “steep slope ordinance.” That, according to the clip, was another alleged point of contention between the parties.
