TIME OUT
QUESTION: In high school volleyball, who can call time out? (Head coach only, assistant coach, playing captain only, any player participating in the set).
ANSWER: Time out will be honored by referees when signaled by either head coach or playing captain only. A time out will last for a maximum of 60 seconds unless both squads are ready to play beforehand. (Rule 11, Sec. 2, Art. 1 & 3).
QUESTION: Prior to the start of a set, head coach of serving squad (Team S) requests a time out. Should referees grant this request? How many time outs are allotted to each team per set? (4, 3 or 2)
ANSWER: Each squad is limited to two (2) time outs per set. Time outs may be taken consecutively without any play between them (Rule 11, Sec. 2, Art. 3)
