To the Editor:
Watching all the divisiveness that is going on is, to some degree, really aggravating me in ways I cannot explain. People are talking about inequality as if somehow people are so oppressed that we need to address major issues. Excuse me, inequality? Last time I checked under the law all races, religion, etc. are equal. I do not see any segregation going on in schools, bathrooms, public places, private places, etc. I see every person in this country, even those who are here illegally, bearing basically the exact same rights as everyone else. Do not misconstrue this as to say this country is perfect; we are far from perfect. Like any country, we have our issues we need to deal with, but I am sorry, the pity party does not work for me. It never has. I know so many people who struggled, worked through what life has thrown at them, to be able to succeed and become better mentally, physically, financially and more. Can you find me any country in the world that has millions of illegal people living in their country working and making a better life for themselves?
It does not happen; this country is great because we are able to change the course of our existence through the very freedoms which are inalienable to all of us. The past is never easy and the future is always brighter. Never once did I ever hear any founder of this country say this was the perfect society. They tried to put us on a path to allow us to grow, become better and to change. I think people’s false concept of inequality is warped with some sort of backward logic wrapped around it. This is 2017; generally speaking, people born here have no idea of inequality, injustices, oppression. You feel bad because some idiot human being gave you a hard time. Sorry, there are a******s in every crowd and most people go on about their lives undisturbed and coexist.
I would be happy to generate a list of 30 countries people can move to where inequality is real, injustices are real, and genocide is real. Maybe you should move to North Korea, Somalia, The Middle East, Venezuela, etc. Many people in the world are dealing with mass rape, mass murder, ethnic cleansing, slavery, inequality because of sex, race, or religion every single day. Your biggest concern today is how bad a cop may have treated you, how you “feel” oppressed. We have a natural right to express our feelings; it cannot be taken away from us. Imagine for one moment the person that was just executed right now somewhere on this planet because they expressed their feelings.
The freedom in this country has brought this country to be one of the best places in the world for equality and opportunity. No one says it is perfect, no one says we cannot improve but when we cry like a baby about how bad we have it and many of us are in shock. Yet in other parts of the world they will look at us and shake their heads because they don’t have 1/16th of what we have. The poor in this country are middle class citizens to most of the world. Everyone here has the same equal opportunity to succeed. We work for it and we fight for it every single day. Should one find a country that has all these things and it is a better place, I suggest you go there and live out your life in peace and harmony, best of luck to you.
