Residents get free checkups and more at Library Health Fair

The North Bergen Free Public Library was packed with residents on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a free Community Health Fair. Representatives from numerous local and national organizations provided free information and giveaways, and consulted with attendees on a wide variety of health issues.
Especially popular were the physical checkups and medical screenings, including blood tests, pulmonary function tests, and vision texts.
Mayor Nicholas Sacco helped kick off the event by greeting residents and welcoming them to the event. The health fair was sponsored by Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center and the North Bergen Free Public Library.

Register for recreation basketball and wrestling

Mayor Nicholas Sacco and Commissioner Hugo Cabrera have announced the opening of registration for North Bergen Recreation basketball, all-star basketball, and wrestling.
Boys and girls ages 5 through 17 can register for basketball from now until Nov. 21. Wrestling registration begins Oct. 16 and runs through Nov. 21. Register at the North Bergen Recreation Center, 6300 Meadowview Ave., between 2 and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. No sign-ups Nov. 7 or 13.
Boys in grades 4 through 8 are invited to register for North Bergen Recreation all-star basketball traveling team tryouts at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Recreation Center. Must know how to play basketball; this is a competitive traveling team.
A $35 non-refundable registration fee is required, along with a birth certificate and proof of residency. All forms of payment are accepted.

North Bergen’s Food Truck Festival is Oct. 14

The North Bergen Food Truck Festival will be held in the Food Bazaar parking lot, 1425 Kennedy Blvd. from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.
In addition to a wide selection of delicious treats, there will be free musical performances by Los Ciegos Del Barrio at 1 p.m. and The Nerds at 2:30 p.m. Kids can enjoy free face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, and refreshments.
Food vendors scheduled to participate include Aumm Aumm, The Corn Guy, Dark Side of the Moo, French Quarter, Milk Sugar Love, Ms. Fu’s Yummy Truck, Squeeze’d, and Waffle De Lys.

Los Angeles Chargers practice in North Bergen

The Los Angeles Chargers football team visited North Bergen on Oct. 7 for a few hours of practice in Braddock Park. The afternoon scrimmage was in preparation for their game against the Giants the next day.
Some of the players posed for pictures with Mayor Nicholas Sacco, Commissioner Hugo Cabrera, Freeholder Anthony Vainieri, and other township officials and administrators, and autographed a practice football.

Farmers Market extended through October

Due to popular demand the Braddock Park Farmers Market has been extended an additional four weeks and will now run through Sunday, Oct. 29. Located near the corner of 90th Street and Bergenline Avenue, alongside the Veterans’ Memorial, the market offers seasonal favorites at competitive prices.
In addition to Jersey farmers providing fresh, locally-sourced produce and other goods, the market attracts a rotating selection of vendors each week. Cooked food is available, along with fresh breads, vegan and gluten-free pastries, homemade soaps, handcrafted crochet items, and other treats.
The market is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plenty of free parking is available.
