Supporting Jen for Mayor & Hoboken Proud for School Board

Dear Editor,

The simple reason we’re supporting Jen Giattino for Mayor is found in a picture. It’s a picture I took of Jen and her children with our family on Election Eve 2012 ready to campaign for the school board election — held just one week after Super Storm Sandy devastated Hoboken and damaged Jen’s house. Our power was out for 5 days but we were lucky to have suffered no damage to our home. As the volunteer campaign coordinator for Kids First I wasn’t expecting the usual volunteer turnout as I started to make calls when we learned that the election would proceed despite the storm’s catastrophic impact on Hoboken.

The storm changed everyone’s priorities. Jen’s life was turned upside down and yet she still answered my volunteer call. Jen set aside her dire situation to put a campaign t-shirt over her down parka and help us get out the vote for the Kids First 2012 school board ticket of Tom Kluepfel, Ruthy McAllister and Jean Marie Mitchell. That’s her level of commitment to the public schools and to the community. Her selflessness and tireless dedication to making Hoboken a better place for everyone are some of the reasons we’re supporting Jen Giattino for Mayor 7-H and Team Giattino: James Aibel 17-I, Jason Ellis 18-I, and Sal Starace 19-I for at-large Councilmembers. And as parents of a Hoboken High School Grade 11 student we join with Jen Giattino in support of the Hoboken Proud team of dedicated parents who have demonstrated their commitment to our schools: Melanie Tekirian 5-J, Sharyn Angley 6-J and Chetali Khanna 7-J for Hoboken Board of Education.

Sincerely,
Deirdre E Wall
