Investigation recovers handgun, shell casing, riot charges

BAYONNE – A Bayonne Police Department investigation into reports of a large fight and shots fired at a basketball court on First Street and Island View Court near Dennis Collins Park on October 17 has revealed that police recovered one 9-millimeter spent shell casing from a bullet fragment from a brick wall at 2 Island View Court and a handgun, according to a media release from BPD Detective Joe Scerbo. The investigation resulted in additional charges of third degree riot for the four men arrested that day, the arrest of another man for third-degree riot, and arrest warrants for four others for third-degree riot, according to the release.
Riot is legally defined as an instance of more than four people engaging in disorderly conduct. When weapons are involved, charges are elevated to a third-degree crime.
Arrested for third-degree riot was Jeremia Mauricio, 31, of Jersey City; Christopher Nunez, 24, of Bayonne; Adanis Espejo, 33, of Bayonne; Jesus Baret, 28, of Bayonne; and Israel Alcaide 20, of Bayonne, according to the BPD release.
Arrest warrants for third-degree riot have been issued for Victor Molina, 28, of Jersey City; Eddy Frias-Mercedes, 26, of Bayonne; and Isaac Fermin, 19 of Bayonne. An arrest warrant has also been issued for Guido Nunez, 24, of Jersey City for criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess weapons and third-degree riot, according to the BPD media release.
