New Jersey Cricket Council Champions Challenge Cup 2017


New Jersey Cricket Council is the premier cricket organization based in Bayonne. The primary objective of NJ Cricket Council is to promote, encourage, foster and develop interest and participation in the game of cricket throughout the region. NJ Cricket Council is also involved in cricket coaching and cricket umpire’s training in New Jersey.

This year, NJ Cricket Council organized one of the Mega Cricket Tournament involving the best cricket teams from the Tri-State area. More than 40 top teams showed interest to participate in this year’s Championship but only the 21 best teams were selected to play for the Champions Challenge Cup 2017 following a preset criteria. After initial rounds and play-offs, 4 top teams reached the semi-final stage of the tournament: Bayonne/Jersey City based Newark Club NJ, Pak Stallions NY, Union/Jersey City based Zalmi NJ, and Cricket Travel NY. In the semi-finals, Zalmi NJ beat Newark Club NJ and Cricket Travel NY beat Pak Stallions NY. The final of the tournament was played between Union/Jersey City based team Zalmi NJ and Cricket Travel NY at Normandy Cricket Ground Piscataway, NJ. The chief guest for the final was Mr. Ajay Patil who is the Council Member in the Township of Edison, NJ. Along with him other prominent figures of the community; Mr. Sam Khan & Mr. Kamran Khan also graced the occasion for the prize distribution ceremony.

In the final, Zalmi NJ and Cricket Travel NY both teams played a terrific match and at the end it was Cricket Travel NY who came to the party and kept their nerves to go past the finishing line and won the NJ Cricket Council’s Champion Challenge Cup 2017. The guests of honor distributed awards and prizes to the winners, runner-ups and other top performers of the tournament. The participating Team Captains and Players thanked and appreciated the efforts of NJ Cricket Council’s Mr. Mudassar Safdar who has always played a key role in organizing quality cricket tournaments across New Jersey.
