Thank you for successful 2017 Board of Education candidate forums

Dear Editor:

The Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition (QLC) Board of Trustees would like to thank everyone who helped make our 2017 candidate forums a success. QLC has provided this service for many years and takes great pride in sponsoring events that allow citizens the opportunity to meet the municipal and board of education candidates who seek to represent us and who will make important decisions that affect both quality of life and use and investment of our tax dollars. We can offer this service only with the generous support of many people and organizations.
Thank you to the candidates for their preparation, willing participation and thoughtful consideration of the many questions elicited form the audience and to the citizens who joined us, especially given the numerous other compelling events in their lives. Community engagement and education are drivers of the Hoboken QLC and we were thrilled by the positive response to this year’s forums.
Thank you to the various venues that offered spaces, our partners: Steven Institute of Technology and the Debaun Auditorium for Mayoral Forum; Mile Square Theatre for the City Council, Part I forum, and the Honorable Dawn Zimme, The City of Hoboken and the Multi-Service Center for the City Council, Part II forum. We are very disappointed that we weren’t able to bring together the Board of Education candidates due to scheduling conflicts but want to also recognize the support of the Hoboken Elks Lodge and Our Lady of Grace and St. Joseph for their effort to host these candidates’ forums.
Thank you to our moderator, Bob Bowdon, for his continued support, touches of levity and keeping the dialogue moving and to the Stevens Institute of Technology Students Government Association and our other committed volunteers for their able assistance. Thank you also to John Heinis, Hudson County View for his willingness to moderate the Board of Education forum. Also, many thanks to Mayor Zimmer and Hoboken Communications Manager, Juan Melli, for providing a video of the forum on the Hoboken Government access channels.
QLC is currently working with the City and various governmental agencies on a number of exciting initiatives and we welcome volunteers to join us in support of these projects.

Mary A. Kelly,
Interim Coordinator, on Behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Hoboken Quality of life Coalition
