A funeral mass was offered Dec. 12 at St. Francis RC Church, Hoboken, for Thomas S. Brereton. He passed away surrounded by his family at his Hoboken home where he resided as a lifelong resident. A retired refrigeration mechanic with Pepsi Cola Company and a proud veteran of the US Army from 1965 – 1969, he was an active member of the Hoboken American Legion Post 107 and a former Commander in the Legion with many acts of benevolence in Hudson County, including the Secaucus VFW Post 3776, a member of the 40 and 8 Association of Korean War Veterans and the Vietnam War Association in his capacity as a Service Officer.
Surviving are his wife, Rosalie (nee) DeSomma, three sons, Thomas S. Jr. (Rhonda), Timothy P., and Brian P. (Jessica), two daughters, Dina Marie Brereton and Judith A. Murphy (Butch), two sisters, Diane Crispin (Gerry) and Kathleen Karstetter and a brother, James, and his grandchildren, Sean and Dylan Murphy, Alexandra, Tim, Brian, James, and Daniel Brereton and Nicholas Longobardo. Tom was predeceased by his parents John and Sarah, a brother John and a brother in law, Michael. Also surviving are his in laws, Nancy and Howard Reisen and Sandra DeSomma. Services arranged by the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, Hoboken.
