SECAUCUS – A NJ Transit officer who saved a man from the tracks at Secaucus Junction in 2016 won almost $500,000 on a game show. Victor Ortiz and his wife and daughter went home with $499,899 in winnings from NBC’s “The Wall,” according to NBC 10.
In Augusr 2016, Ortiz was working at Secaucus Junction when he saw and removed a man from the train tracks, moments before a train entered the station.
Though the show actually taped last year, NBC 10 reports, Ortiz kept the outcome secret, until it was aired Monday night.
A day after it aired, Ortiz was on patrol at Secaucus Junction, telling the media outlet he won’t let the money change him. However, he does plan on using it to fund his daughter’s college education. As his wife recently finished breast cancer treatments, NBC 10 says, he’ll also take the family on a celebratory trip to London.
“Here we are, after all we’ve been through, so let’s enjoy our lives because we don’t know what tomorrow will bring,” he told NBC 10.
