SECAUCUS – Police have arrested five employees from a local clothing store warehouse in connection with an alleged fraud scheme.
According to a town police report, the employees would allegedly process online orders, then enter them through their own Ebates accounts to pocket rebate money.
Ebates is a cash back website that offers coupons and cash back from over 2,000 online retailers.
The warehouse’s Loss Prevention Officer discovered the alleged unauthorized access, according to police. The alleged scheme had been going on since last March, according to Police Capt. Dennis Miller. He claimed the employees allegedly pocketed several thousand dollars for themselves.
Officials have charged four of the employees with theft by deception. Three have been charged with criminal attempt. All five have been charged with conspiracy to commit theft and computer criminal activity. In addition, one of the suspects had an outstanding warrant from Union City.
Miller added that additional arrests may soon follow.
