Helping the homeless in the cold

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank Hudson County leadership team: Freeholder O’Dea, Administrator Abe Antun, Director of Division of Correction Ronald Edwards, Director of Health & Humane Services Darice Toon, and Coordinator of the Office of Homeless Services Jonique Mosley for responding to help the chronic homeless persons during the recent cold days to stay at Kearny Warming Center. The Warming Center was operational 24 hours a day and conditions were improved; as a result, the number of people who have been going to the center has increased to over 80 persons per day from an average of 45 persons per day. I also want to thank them for organizing additional pick-up trips from Hoboken and Jersey City during the ‘code blue’ weather alert period. Special thanks to the outreach team who did an excellent job of coordinating, particularly from JSQ Path station.
The county hotline for those seeking shelter from the cold is 800-624-0287
