To the Editor:
A few weeks back our family experienced one of the scariest days of our lives. A bad fire started in the top floor of the house next door to us with both families pretty much losing everything. While flames poured out of the top floor of the house next door only about five feet from our home, my family held our breath praying the fire department would get here really quickly so our home was not hit.
I watched as our terrific Bayonne Fire Department raced into the home where the fire was to make sure there was no one still in there while putting out the fire in record time. I would say another ten minutes our house would have been hit. In a friendly and professional manner, the Bayonne Police and EMTs also did a great job helping my mom and our family evacuate our home. A big thanks also to Jose Resua a neighbor on our block who showed great concern for my mom and let her sit in his car during that very cold night and for the other neighbors and friends who texted and called me throughout the night, offering to help.
I always have had great respect for our first responders but until something like this happens to you so close to home, you really can’t and don’t appreciate them as much as you should.
God bless to all the first responders who risk their lives every day!
