Mr. Richard J. Baccarella, Principal of Bayonne High School, and the Hall of Fame Committee under the direction of Eric N. Ryan Vice Principal have announced the inductees for 2018. The induction ceremony will take place on April 11 at 6 p.m. in the Bayonne High School Auditorium in conjunction with the National Honor Society induction ceremony. All previous inductees to the Hall of Fame are encouraged to attend along with families and friends.

This year’s Hall of Fame inductees:

Michael T. Smith- Class of 1995- Athletics

Michael Smith was raised in Bayonne and while attending Bayonne High School he became one of the most decorated swimmers in school history. He was a three time high school state swimming championship qualifier named to 1st team All-State team in Junior and Senior years. While a four-time All-County Swim team member he finished undefeated in HCIAA competition in the 50 and 100 yard Sprint Freestyle events. Michael set the HCIAA Swimming/Diving Championship Meet Record in both 50 and 100 yd. Freestyle events in Junior and broke his own record in his senior year. His record in the 50 and 100 Free have yet to be broken. He was the 1995 USS Swimming NJ State Champion in both the 50 and 100 yd. Freestyle and also was a US Open & Speedo Junior National Qualifier. Michael received the Richard Bronstein Sports Scholarship, Olympiad Memorial Award form Hudson County Council of War Veterans & the Wendy’s High School Heisman trophy his Senior Year. Michael received an Athletic/Academic scholarship to attend Division I Rider University. Graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor of Finance and received his MBA from Monmouth University in 2006. Today Michael is an avid tri-athlete as a member of the Jersey Shore Triathlon Club and completed the Ironman in Louisville, Kansas in 2014.

Kevin DiGiorgio- Class of 1998- Athletics

Kevin DiGiorgio is one of the most decorated Track athletes not only at Bayonne High School but in the State of New Jersey. He is a nine-time All-County team member in Shot Put and Discus while a four-time All-State in Shot Put/Discus. Kevin achieved National recognition as a five-time All-American team member in Shot Put/Discus while winning three Shot Put National Championships. Kevin was the New Jersey State Record holder in the indoor and outdoor Shot Put. Kevin was the outdoor National Championship Meet Record holder from 1997-2009 (69 ft. 8 in.). Sports Illustrated Old Spice Athlete of the Month for May 1998. He was also pictured and featured in Rolling Stone Magazine 1st Sports Annual 1998. Kevin received a full athletic scholarship to Rutgers University and was 1998 indoor Shot Put Champion. Finished 3rd at the prestigious Big East Championships and was Rutgers University Shot Put Record Holder from 1998-2004 (59 ft. 9 in.) with the 16 lb. Shot. Kevin is an avid power lifter holding World Record in the Squat at 760 lbs at the 2011 IPA World Championships. He achieved personal bests of 760 lbs. in Squat, 740 lbs. in Deadlift and 465 lbs. in Bench Press. Today he currently is the Strength and conditioning coach for Bayonne High School athletic teams and is a Physical Education Teacher at BHS.
