80, of Forked River passed away on April 7, 2018 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Martin was born in Jersey City and had lived in Bayonne before retiring to Forked River. He was a boiler maker working for the Boiler Makers Union #28 of Bayonne and retired after many years. Martin owned his own plane and was a pilot and flight instructor out of Teterboro Airport. He is survived by his son Martin T. Smolen, III, and his wife Sandy, one sister Janet Seiferth, three brothers, and their wives, Ronald and Joan, Bill and Peggy, Jack and Bonnie.
