Remember the linemen when the lights go out

Dear Editor:

March 2018 produced three nor’easters, and two in less than a week, which caused power outages in many parts of New Jersey. Whenever the lights come back on, we breathe a grateful sigh of relief; but, we never know who to thank.
April 18th was National Lineman Appreciation Day, and on behalf of the residents of Hudson County, I would like to take this opportunity to say, “Thank you,” to all of the men and women who work on the electric grid to keep our power on and who perform their tasks in challenging conditions to restore the power after storms.
These men and women work tirelessly in all types of hazardous weather and in the darkness of night so we may maintain our electricity dependent lives and return to the high reliability standard that we benefit from while the families of these workers may still be in the dark.
This is also a good time to express our appreciation for the emergency responders who work side-by-side with PSE&G to ensure a safe work zone so the electricity can start flowing in the shortest time possible.
