Secaucus planning multi-purpose indoor recreational facility on Meadowlands Parkway

SECAUCUS–A new recreational facility on Meadowlands Parkway is in the works, according to Town Administrator Gary Jeffas. The space would be an , indoor multi-purpose field, able to host recreational sports such as soccer, football, wrestling, and cheerleading, Jeffas said. It is located next to the Union Beer Distributors facility, which is at 46 Meadowlands Pkwy.

The town leases the land for the planned facility from Hartz Mountain Industries. Today, they use it for some recreation, but want to do more with it, Jeffas said. Currently, an outside engineering firm is performing preliminary design and architectural work for the space. The firm estimates the total cost to build the facility at $4 million, Jeffas said.

At this year’s reorganization meeting , Mayor Michael Gonnelli announced plans to build a second recreation center in town. It would complement the existing center on Koelle Boulevard, officials say.

Jeffas did not have a timetable for completion, but said the town hopes for a possible end of 2019 opening.
