HOBOKEN — While Hoboken is filled with artists, musicians, and writers, there may not be as much of an “arts community” as there used to be. But some are trying to change that.
During Monday night’s inaugural watertfront gala for the arts, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla signed an executive order that says that 1 percent of every bond ordinance enacted into law must go to support the arts.
The city periodically votes for bond ordinances to fund various capital projects.
According to Bhalla, if the order had been enacted last year, it would have raised roughly $200,000 for the arts community.
To find out more about the Innagural Waterfront Gala for the Arts and the executive order, look at this weekend’s upcoming Hoboken Reporter, on your doorstep or at hudsonreporter.com.
