To the Editor:
As a parent of thee children who attend Henry E. Harris, I was always pleased with the sense of community felt there. This year it has gone to new levels, and the staff at this school should be commended for being such amazing, kindhearted individuals. In January we learned that our youngest would need to undergo brain surgery, at just 7 years old. From day one, the entire school has been so incredibly supportive, from helping us prepare for surgery, home instruction after, and returning to school. Mrs. Kazimir personally assisted us with anything that she could and assured us that she would be there every step of the way for whatever we needed. Mrs. Whitney helped me immensely with home instruction and his transition back into the classroom. From the school secretary to the guidance counselor, everyone made us feel a bit more at ease. We could not walk into the schoolyard to pick up our older children without a teacher or parent asking how our youngest was doing. The support was truly overwhelming and greatly appreciated. Our biggest supporter was his teacher, Mrs. Senerchia. She has helped us and supported us in ways that I could never express my gratitude for. Over the year, she became a friend to not only my 7year-old, but me. Her compassion for her students is what makes her an incredible teacher and what makes parents and children lucky to have her as a teacher. Thank you for being so caring, concerned, and supportive! We could never thank you enough for the gift you have given us this year, in making not only one of our most difficult times easier, but more important, our son’s most difficult journey. BBOED is lucky to have a teacher as wonderful as you.
