DORTCH, JAVIS MONTRIC

Funeral services took place July 6 for Javis Montric Dortch of Jersey City. He peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 1. Born in Jersey City to Loretta Davis (nee Bethea) and James McClain, Javis spent his early years between New Jersey and South Carolina. He graduated from Ferris High School, went on to join the Marines, and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. Known as “Mr. Bizzness”, Javis was the quintessential Renaissance man. His entrepreneurial spirit and love of people fueled his every endeavor: from fitness training to acting to managing his music entertainment company, Blockstar Entertainment. He was a mentor, counselor, advocate for the elderly, and community servant. His greatest passion was his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Mariam Garuba; son Jaeqwuan Dortch and daughter Destiny Dortch; his parents, Loretta Davis and James McClain; his siblings, Yolanda Amiker-Dortch, Stacy Alberico, and Habeeb Champion, and a host of aunts, uncles and relatives.
