Alleged drunk driver damages 36 vehicles in Hoboken

HOBOKEN–Union City resident Miguel Aleman, 22, was arrested on Wednesday, July 25 at 1:28 a.m. after he allegedly damaged roughly 36 vehicles while driving.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI in a school zone, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to exhibit insurance documents, driving an unregistered vehicle, and two counts of assault by auto for injuries to passengers.
The Hoboken Police Department received several 911 calls about a driver traveling north on Bloomfield Street which had struck several parked cars.
According to a release from the Police Department, they determined that Aleman allegedly damaged approximately 36 parked vehicles found between First and Eighth streets on Bloomfield Street.
Officers Matt Isler and Fabian Quinones went to the area and located the white 2010 Honda and driver, Aleman, at Eighth and Bloomfield streets.
Quinones saw that the Honda had heavy damage including the passenger side windshield. He noticed that all airbags had been deployed. Aleman was allegedly disoriented and unable to balance while standing. Officers also smelled alcohol allegedly coming from him. Due to the damage and possibility of injury, medical personnel arrived and evaluated Aleman as well as two passengers for injuries.
Sgt. Saverio Binetti conducted a field sobriety test which Aleman was allegedly unable to complete and he was put under arrest.
Due to the possibility of serious injury, all were transported to Hoboken University Medical Center to be evaluated and treated.
Aleman was allegedly unable to provide breath samples immediately and instead of blood and urine samples were provided at the hospital for testing in order to determine his alcohol level.
After treatment, he was processed at police headquarters and released to a responsible party. the two passengers remain at the hospital for further evaluation.
