Hoboken mayor warns residents of weekend traffic congestion

HOBOKEN — Mayor Ravi Bhalla released a statement Friday morning regarding the Jersey City Suez project which caused traffic delays in southwest Hoboken in late June. Bhalla warned residents that southwest Hoboken will likely be congested beginning Friday night at 8 p.m. due to the ongoing water meter upgrades by Suez Water.
After the congestion in June Bhalla had shut down the project until he was provided with a plan to calm the congestion and keep the area safe.
He said he was “fully prepared to do so again this weekend if the conditions on the ground pose a reasonable risk to the safety, health, and welfare of Hoboken residents.”
He said he will be on site this evening and throughout the weekend to assess the situation.
“With this in mind, I ask you to plan alternate routes, such as entering and exiting Hoboken from the north this weekend and for the next several weekends, as SUEZ Water estimates it will take several weekends of work to complete the project,” said Bhalla. “If you cannot avoid the southwest entrance into the city, please expect delays.”
Residents with concerns are welcome to reach out to the mayor directly by email at rbhalla@hobokennj.gov.
