Hoboken to host public workshop to improve street designs

Hoboken and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority will host a public workshop to gather feedback on the creation of a Street Design Guide on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Multi-Service Center (124 Grand St.)
The interactive public workshop will introduce the concept of the Street Design Guide and highlight project components.
Workshop attendees will have an opportunity to identify challenges they face navigating Hoboken’s streets and suggest improvements.
“Whether you’re walking, biking, driving, or riding the bus, we all use our streets in some way each day,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla in a press release. “Strong community input will be essential to the development of an innovative Street Design Guide that will improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life for residents and visitors, regardless of how you choose to get around.”
This project is part of an ongoing effort to implement state-of-the-art safety improvements to streets throughout the city. As part of these efforts, the city applied for and was awarded a technical assistance grant from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority to develop a Complete Streets Design and Implementation Plan, which includes a Street Design Guide.
The goal of the plan is to make Hoboken’s streets more accommodating for all users, including children, people with disabilities, and senior citizens.
“As one of the country’s most multi-modal cities, it’s important for Hoboken to have a cutting-edge Street Design Guide,” said Director of Transportation and Parking for Hoboken Ryan Sharp. “I encourage you to use this public workshop on Sept. 27 as a way to be part of this exciting process.”
