JERSEY CITY – Students at McNair Academic were gathered in the school’s auditorium to hear U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos today recognize their school as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2018 for the school’s overall academic performance. The students cheered as their school received this prestigious award.
“I’m pleased to celebrate with you as your school is named a National Blue Ribbon School,” said DeVos in a video message to the honorees. “We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives. Congratulations on your students’ accomplishments and for your extraordinary commitment to meeting their unique needs.”
The announcement was broadcast to winning schools across the nation.
McNair Academic HS, which was also recognized as the highest performing school in the state of New Jersey, received this national recognition as an Exemplary High Performing School. The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
“There are great things happening at McNair and across our district. I am so proud that McNair has received this much deserved recognition and am proud of the teachers that make McNair great and all of those who have helped prepare students for McNair along the way,” said Dr. Marcia V. Lyles, Superintendent of Schools.
