Hoboken Art and Studio Tour will be Nov. 3-4
The annual Art and Studio Tour, Hoboken’s free self-guided exhibition of local artists and their work spaces and of city art galleries, is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3 – 4, from 12 to 6 p.m. In addition to seeing the latest creations hanging in gallery spaces, many artists will be available in their studios for discussions of their work. Hoboken swears in new fire chief
Provisional Fire Chief Brian Crimmins was sworn in as Chief of the Hoboken Fire Department on Monday, Oct. 15 after Mayor Ravi Bhalla appointed him to the position.
Crimmins has been serving as the provisional fire chief since late last year replacing Anton Peskens. Prior to being appointed provisional fire chief he was a battalion chief and has been with the Hoboken Fire Department since 2004.
He graduated magna cum laude from Boston College and graduated first in his class at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he received a Master’s in Public Administration.
“In less than a year leading the department, Chief Crimmins has demonstrated a new brand of leadership for the department,” said Bhalla. “He’s established new standards of professionalism and preparedness, including facilitating training for firefighters to be better equipped in serving residents with autism. I applaud his efforts and look forward to his continued stellar leadership.”
“I am honored to dedicate my career to improving the resilience of our community and to promoting the finest fire department in the State of New Jersey,” said Crimmins.
Crimmins comes from a long line of Hoboken Public Safety officials. His grandfather, George W. Crimmins, was chief of police, and his father, George W. Crimmins II, was Business Administrator and Public Safety Director.
Public meeting on Rebuild By Design announced
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection will host a public meeting on the Rebuild By Design project on Thursday, Oct. 25.
The meeting will take place at Stevens Institute of Technology Bissinger Room on the fourth floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center at 1 Castle Point Terrace from 7 to 9 p.m.
The project team will remind attendees of the overall project history and update them on technical design implications and public input received during the final design phase.
Attendees will also learn about the design process as the project has moved from Feasibility into the final design hhase Have a chance to view “in process” design ideas and ask questions of the design team members.
During this phase of work, the resist components (flood control structures to resist storm surge) will be designed.

Val Emmich to read “Dear Evan Hansen” in Hoboken on Oct. 26
Writer, actor, and musician Val Emmich will read his new young adult novelization of “Dear Evan Hansen,” the Broadway show. Tweens, teens, and adults are all invited
His appearance will take place Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m., at Little City Books, 100 Bloomfield St., Hoboken.
Emmich will do an interview, followed by a Q&A and book signing, plus sing a set of songs.

“Perspectives” opens Oct. 26
“Perspectives,” an exhibition of traditional and contemporary mediums by the members of hob’art co-operative gallery, will be open to the public from Oct. 26 to Nov. 17, at the hob’art gallery at 720 Monroe St.
A reception to meet the exhibitors will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. “Perspectives,” features several artists in several mediums.
The artists are Don Sichler, photography; Rich Roberts, fused glass; Alberte Bernier, mixed media; Carla Cubit, mixed media; Jim Fallon, mixed media on Combat paper; Donna O’Grady, traditional oil painting; Jean-Paul Picard, innovative photography; Lily Zane, Mixed media; Liz Ndoye, mixed media; Ibou Ndoye, reverse glass painting. hob’art, was founded by Liz Cohen Ndoye, and has been supporting artists for well over a decade.

Resident robbed in elevator
According to a press release from the Hoboken Police Department, a woman was robbed around 11 p.m. on Monday Oct. 15 in the elevator of her apartment building on Fifth Street between Jefferson and Adams streets.
The victim had walked into the lobby and saw a man opening packages before stepping in the elevator. The man followed her inside, then allegedly took her phone and purse.
Andrew Wheeler has been charged with robbery and false imprisonement. He was located by police on Third Street and Jackson Street; he allegedly has the woman’s belongings in his possession.
Storytelling series returns to Mile Square Theatre on Oct. 27
The second show in the On The Waterfront Storytelling Series, a storytelling show produced by Hobokenites Adam Wade and Carla Katz, is coming to Mile Square Theatre, 1400 Clinton St., Hoboken, Saturday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
The show will be hosted by the comedian C.J. Hunt (“Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” “The Moth”). Storytellers will include Adam Wade, (“Inside Amy Schumer,” “Girls,” 20 time Moth Champion), Carla Katz, (Comedy Cellar, Peoples Improv, Caveat),

Hudson County CASA is seeking volunteers
Learn how to become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer and help foster children find safe and permanent homes. The next information session will be held at the Hudson County Courthouse, 595 Newark Ave. Rm# 901 on Tuesday, November 13 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
CASA is a nonprofit organization committed to advocating for the best interests of abused and neglected children. CASA works through trained community volunteers to ensure that needed services and assistance are made available to children while helping to move them toward safe and permanent homes. Hudson County CASA volunteers are everyday people who make a direct impact in foster children’s lives. They are trusted, dedicated adults who seek to improve children’s well-being. CASA volunteers get to know their assigned child and his or her circumstances and provide valuable information to the court. Judges rely on the volunteers’ recommendations to make the best decisions about the children’s futures.
