Jade Saunders, 17, of Jersey City, was shot dead in the area of Brinkerhoff Street in Jersey City at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 26. She was a student at Lincoln High School.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said that at approximately 11:35 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of 76 Brinkerhoff St. in Jersey City. Upon arrival, Jersey City Police Officers found Saunders unresponsive at that location with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
A second victim who suffered non-life-threatening injuries was also found at the scene. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center. He was treated and released Saturday, Oct. 27.
Principal Chris Gadsden called this senseless violence and went on to say that Saunders was looking forward to graduating and going to the prom.
Gadsden, who was named principal of Lincoln High School in June, said last month that part of his job was to make sure that his students have a good experience in school, and are allowed to enjoy their lives as kids.
“I feel horrible for her friends who had witness her dying in front of them,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
