Funeral services were held Oct. 27 at the Community Church of Hoboken for Alfred A. Siss Jr.,73. He passed away in his home on Oct. 23. Born to Dr. Alfred and Anna Mae Siss, he attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Paterson and graduated from Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes. Alfred was a natural athlete, nicknamed “Ramapo Al,” and he loved running track. He graduated Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and The National Law Center of George Washington University. Following law school, Alfred served in the National Guard. Alfred practiced law beginning in 1969 in Midland Park, Wyckoff, and North Haledon, and was a municipal judge in Midland Park. He was a loyal New York Giants fan and pursued his love of music and writing. A sonorous bass, Siss loved singing, in particular with the Hoboken Renaissance Singers and the Collegiate Chorale in New York City and at countless churches throughout the metropolitan area, often accompanied by his wife, a pianist, Dr. Merry Naddeo. He is also the author of the 2013 novel, “The Birthright,” a product of years of devotion. He also wrote popular and pointed letters to the Hoboken Reporter. A man of extreme intelligence, bold wit, and strong heart, he is survived by his wife, Merry, of Hoboken; three children, William Siss (Madigan) of Harwinton, CT, Emily Smolin (David) of Ho-Ho-Kus, and Greta Buerkle (Jason) of Holmdel; devoted stepson, Ricardo Fernandez, currently on a humanitarian mission in South Sudan; brother Eric (Cara) of Santa Monica, Calif.; sister Christine Keeler (John) of Wyckoff; and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed. Services arranged by the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home, Hoboken.
