Local police join No-Shave November to fund cancer awareness

If you notice members of the North Bergen and Guttenberg Police Departments and other first responders suddenly sporting beards and facial hair this month, there’s a very good reason. It’s No-Shave November, the annual event to raise awareness and funds to fight colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer is a preventable and treatable disease if discovered early, and the number of cases in people over age 50 has decreased, due in part to doctor-recommended screenings. However, one in three adults over 50 is still not being screened, and even more critically, for individuals under age 50 the number of cases has quadrupled.

No-Shave November is designed to bring awareness to the disease and to raise funds for www.fightcolorectalcancer.org.

The month will end with a “Shave-Off” of the police officers’ beards at Eye Contact Vision Center, the sponsors of the event. Visit www.eyecontactofnorthbergen.com for further information or to donate to the cause.
