GARLAND, JAMES E.

A funeral mass took place Jan. 5 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Secaucus for James E. Garland, 88, of Secaucus. He passed away Jan. 1 at the Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck. He was born in Hoboken and resided in Secaucus for the last 62 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church where he served as an usher for 60 years. He was a veteran of the US Army serving as a corporal during the Korean War. James worked as a lithographer for 45 years, including at the Continental Can Company in Paterson and Superior Metal, in Brooklyn, NY, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Amalgamated Lithographers of America. James later worked at the Secaucus Olive Garden until 2002. James was an avid bowler and was a member of the ABC Bowling League, winning a number of tournaments at the highest level and attaining a near 200 average. He bowled in many amateur and professional tournaments throughout the tristate area, including with pro bowler Don Carter at the old Madison Square Garden. James was predeceased by his brothers Raymond and John Garland and his sister Evelyn Riccardi. He was the  husband of Theresa (nee Labriola) for 62 years; the  father of Roxanne Bokuniewicz and her husband Daniel of Wood-Ridge, and Jade Garland of Secaucus; and  grandfather of Luke and Paige. Also surviving are his brother Edward Garland and his wife Blanche, and several nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Mack Memorial Home, Secaucus.
