A four-year-old pre-k student was found dead after failing to wake up from a nap at Cordero School, PS No. 27 on Jan 17, officials said.
“We are deeply saddened by the death,” said School Board President Sudhan Thomas. “Our thoughts and most profound condolences go out to his family and the entire Cordero community who are now trying to come to terms with this tragedy.”
Thomas said the school staff found the student unresponsive after the afternoon nap. The boy was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.
The cause of death has not yet been determined.
“At this time, our immediate focus is on the child’s parents and the larger PS #37 family to assure they get the support and attention this tragedy demands,” Thomas said. “To help support our students and staff at the school, the district will have grief counselors available. The Early Childhood Department will be sending additional support to help his very young classmates and friends understand what has happened. We request prayers and privacy at this sad moment.”
