BROWN, ROBERT J.

A funeral mass was celebrated Jan. 23 at St. John the Baptist, R.C. Church for Robert J. Brown, 79, of Secaucus, formerly a lifelong resident of Jersey City. He passed away on Jan. 17 at the Hudson Regional Hospital. Robert was a graduate of Ferris High School and worked as a sergeant for the Hudson County Department of Corrections, retiring after 25 years. Prior to that, he worked at the Ballantine Brewery in Newark. He was the son of the late William “Sonny” and Margaret Brown and the grandson of the late Nora (nee Veale, a native of county Waterford, Ireland) and John Geraghty. Robert was predeceased by his sisters, Barbara Ann Brown and Eileen Cassidy, and his brother, Harold Brown. He is survived by his siblings, Elaine Rowan (Jimmy), Richard, William Jr. and John (Reem) Brown. He was the uncle of Grace Byrd (Ian), Jacquelyn Svercauski (Rob) and Ronald Cassidy (Renee); the great uncle of Robyn and Cassidy Svercauski and Emile Byrd, and the  brother-in-law of Jack Cassidy.
