MOREIRA, MARIO

A funeral mass was celebrated Jan. 28 at St. Aloysius Church, Jersey City, for Mario A. Moreira, 62. He passed away at Bayonne Medical Center surrounded by his family on Jan. 23. Born in Honduras, Mario came to the US in 1964 and settled in Jersey City. He was a graduate of Ferris High School and Saint Peter’s College. A man of great generosity, he sought to elevate himself and his family. Mario worked for 35 years at refineries in Bayonne and Linden while building two additional businesses for his family, Carolina’s Laundromat and Dixon Deli, both on Christopher Columbus Drive in Jersey City. Though not completed, he recently began his dream of renovating his historic Downtown Jersey City property. He had a passion for history, loved traveling with his family, investing in the stock market and most of all he loved engaging with people. He enjoyed conversations with his customers, discussing world events, politics or history. Mario was predeceased by his mother Rubenia Moreira. He is survived by his wife Mirna (nee Sandoval) Moreira, his children Mario A. Moreira, Jr., Carolina Moreira and David A. Moreira; his sister, former Jersey City Municipal Court Judge Ana C. Moreira, Esq. and brother Jesse J. Soto, Det., JCPD. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
