Welcome to Ninth and Madison.

The public is invited to a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria at 800 Clinton St. to discuss infrastructure upgrades to the intersection of Ninth and Madison streets.

That intersection often floods during heavy rainstorms due to poor drainage and sewer deficiencies.

According to a notice about the meeting, last year at Mayor Ravi Bhalla’s request the North Hudson Sewerage Authority, along with city staff, evaluated several alternatives to alleviate the flooding.

Their recommended improvements will upgrade portions of the sewers, roadways, curbs, and sidewalks in the area.

The project will:

  • Replace the sewer on Madison Street between Ninth Street and 11th Street.
  • Replace the inlets on Madison Street between Ninth Street and 11th Street, on Ninth Street between Madison Street and Monroe Street,  and on 11th Street between Madison and Monroe streets.
  • Elevate the roadways, curbs, and sidewalks on Madison Street between Ninth Street and 10th Street, and on Ninth Street between Madison and Monroe streets.

The project will also upgrade the water mains on all three roadways, which are included in the city’s Water System Renewal Plan.
