DARGAN, GERARD F. 

Funeral services were held Feb. 25 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Secaucus for retired Deputy Chief Gerard F. Dargan, 76, of Secaucus. He passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 21 surrounded by his family. Originally from Hoboken, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home, he served as a Hoboken firefighter. He joined the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office as a detective in 1979. He was promoted to lead the first ever Homicide Task Force in the State of New Jersey. He ultimately rose to the rank of Deputy Chief before his retirement in 2006. He lived in Secaucus for 50 years and was a long time parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Parish. Jerry leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Marietta Dargan, his sister Maureen Maher of North Bergen and he was predeceased by his brother Richard Dargan. He will be missed but never forgotten by his son Gerard and wife Maria of Hillsdale; son, Joseph and wife Michelle of Hillsdale; son, Michael and wife Lauren of Marshfield, MA; and daughter Melissa and husband David Heintjes of Secaucus. His 10 grandchildren will forever love their Pop Pop. His legacy of service to others, dedication to family, and strength of character will live on through them. He loved and was loved by his countless cousins, nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Mack Memorial Home, Secaucus.
