Stop neglecting our parks

To the Editor:

Why would the Bayonne Municipal Council not seek the restoration of Bayonne park land and related structures, particularly the following parks

Brady’s Dock, including:

  • Restoration of presently warped and rotting dock deck surface.
  • Restoration of presently rotting timber panel sections, which are located along the lower perimeter of the nearby storage/concession structure.
  • Completion of lower-level painting, which remains incomplete within the dock environment
  • Replacement of vertical timber fencing section, which would be located at the easternmost terminus of the pier. The structure has been lost as a result Hurricane Sandy, which had occurred over six years ago.

Dennis P. Collins Park, including:

  • Restoration of presently broken and collapsed sidewalks located along the park perimeter
  • Restoration of presently broken and dangerous elevated walking paths throughout the section of the park which extends eastward of the foot of Humphreys Avenue and West 1st Street
  • Restoration of broken and dangerous elevated walking surface, which surrounds water spray park, which is located at the foot of Broadway and 1st Street
  • Repair of park main entrance wall from which the mortar holding it together had been falling away at the foot of Avenue C and West 1st Street
  • Restoration of presently abandoned tennis courts, which are located at the foot of Zabriskie Avenue and West 1st Street.

Bayonne Veterans Park, including:

  • Restorations of presently rotting timber railing posts, which extend along Newark Bay, from the foot of West 27th Street.
  • Reinforcement of severely eroded embankment along Newark Bay, which leads to the West 26th Street fishing pier.
  • Repair of dangerously collapsed walkway which is located on the Newark Bay at the foot of West 27th Street.

Have the terms “public trust” and “stewardship” any meaning to the local administration? Apparently not. Back-to-back six figure salaries at the Bayonne Public Works Department and the neglect continues.
