Allocating Resources For Park Upgrades

Dear Editor:

I’m the mother of a 9 year old and a 4 year old, and like many Hobokenites, we spend a lot of time in our local parks. Parks are the heart of our small city, a place where folks of all ages and all backgrounds can play, relax, and meet their neighbors. I’m a Hoboken native and I’m very grateful for the upgrades to the (much, much scrappier) parks I grew up playing in back in the 80s, but there are still improvements to be made.

As the Hoboken City Council finalizes the annual budget, I would like to propose that they allocate funds to our parks for the following improvements: The replacement of dusty gravel in dog runs with cleaner, more sanitary, and easier to maintain K9 Grass or turf, along with additional trash receptacles for litter and dog waste. And our parks would greatly benefit from additional special needs playground equipment so that every Hoboken kid has a way to play, something that I know the Hoboken Special Needs Parents Group has also been advocating for.
