On Saturday, April 27, Mayor Ravi Bhalla and the City of Hoboken celebrated the contributions of family-owned restaurant Leo’s Grandevous with an honorary street renaming.
The sign “Leo’s Way” was unveiled with co-owners Grace Sciancalepore and Nick DePalma at the corner of Second and Grand streets next to the restaurant.
The ceremony took place during a block party held by Leo’s Grandevous for its 80th anniversary.
“Over the past 80 years, many things have changed in our Mile Square, but one has remained the same – the family tradition of Hoboken’s oldest restaurant, Leo’s Grandevous,” said Mayor Bhalla in a press release. “No restaurant embodies the Hoboken spirit more than Leo’s, and to this day remains a premier destination to enjoy authentic Italian food and appreciate the legacy of Frank Sinatra. We are proud to recognize all the DiTerlizzi family has contributed to our City with an honorary street renaming and congratulate Grace Sciancalepore and Nick DePalma on this incredible milestone!”
Leo’s Grandevous, which was established in 1939 by the late Leo and Tessie DiTerlizzi, is now run by their grandchildren and third generation Hoboken residents, Nick DePalma and Grace Sciancalepore.
“We are extremely proud to have been part of the Hoboken community for these 80 years,” said Grace Sciancalepore. “Thanks to Mayor Bhalla and his fantastic staff for honoring our family with this street sign dedication. We are so happy to be a source of Hoboken tradition and we are resolved to work just as hard as the Mayor to keep Hoboken a great place to live!”
