The Jersey City Department of Recreation announced that city pools and water sprinkler systems are now open and available for use citywide to help residents cool off. Hours vary for pools. Residents should check with the city recreation department website for schedules. All sprinklers will be kept on from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, now through Labor Day.

Swim lessons and programs are also available to Jersey City residents through the Recreation Department.

The city pools include Lafayette Aquatics Center at 303 Van Horne St.; Pershing Field Pool at 201 Central Ave.; Pavonia Pool at 907 Pavonia Ave.; Public School  No.6  at 100 St. Paul’s Ave.; Public School  No. 15  at 135 Stegman St.; Public School  No. 16 at 96 Sussex St.; Public School No. 27 at 201 North St.; Public School  No. 39 at 214 Plainfield Ave.;  Public School  No. 40  at 80 Gates Ave.; Public School  No. 41 at 59 Wilkinson Ave.; and Ferris High School  at 35 Colgate St.

The city sprinklers are in Arlington Park at 785 Grand St.; Audubon Park  at 103-129 Bergen Ave.; Rev. Ercel Webb/Lafayette Park at Maple Street and Van Horne Avenue.; La Pointe Park  at 90-92 Dekalb Ave.; Pershing Field Park  at Summit Avenue and Pershing Plaza; Roberto Clemente Park at 8th Street and Brunswick Street; Bayside Park at 480 Garfield Ave.; Dr. Lena Edwards Park at 325 Johnston Ave.; Hamilton Park at 8th Street, 9th Street and Hamilton Place; Terrace Park, Terrace Ave. and Hillside Road; Venator Watson Park, Stevens Ave. and Martin Luther King Drive; Virginia Avenue Park, 74 – 80 Virginia Ave.; Wilkinson Avenue Park, 146 – 152 Wilkinson Ave.; Berry Lane Park, which opens, June 25 at 1000 Garfield Ave.; and Boyd McGuinness Park, corner of Duncan Avenue and John F. Kennedy Blvd.

Proof of residency and a photo ID must be presented in order to enter the pools. Examples include a driver’s license, passport, utility bill, or work ID.

Additional recreational programming includes outdoor basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, and lacrosse.
