Suez Water to hold discussions on lead contamination in North Bergen

Suez Water announced that it will hold an information session about lead in drinking water for its customers in Hudson County.

The event will be held on June 19 at 6 p.m. at The Boulevard, 3167 Kennedy Blvd., North Bergen. Suez representatives will discuss what the company is doing to address lead content that was found in the water of customers in North Bergen and several other municipalities in the northern New Jersey region.

In January, the company announced that the water in 16 out of 108 homes connected to the company’s Haworth plant tested positive for lead.

As more homes were tested, Suez confirmed that North Bergen, Union City, and West New York had much higher concentrations of lead in drinking water than other municipalities in its network.

Suez announced their vow to remove 25 percent of lead service lines connected to the lead-free water mains that Suez owns by the end of 2019. The company said that none of its own lines contain lead, and that water is contaminated by lines owned by municipalities and homeowners.

The information session is free and open to the public.
