A funeral mass took place June 29 at Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City, for Louisa Di Bello, 79, of Jersey City. She passed away June 26. Born in Gioi, Italy, to the late Nicola and Chiara Scarpa, she lived in Jersey City most of her life. Louisa devoted her life to her church, Holy Rosary. She was the unofficial photographer at every parish event, amassing thousands of pictures over the decades. She happily embraced the job of painting and gardening in the grotto next to the church, as well as fixing anything she could, all for love of her church. She actively participated in ministries and organizations, not limited to the English Choir and Latin Tridentine Choir, Seniors Group, Rosarians, Children of Mary and volunteering at the annual parish festival, La Festa Italiana. For years, patrons of the festival could hear her booming echo along Sixth Street, “ZEPPOLE!!! NICE AND HOT!! She was known as the Zeppole Queen. She was predeceased by her brother and sister, Michael Scarpa and Josephine Chassen. She is survived by her children, Franca Leafe, Marina Di Bello, Lisa (Jim) Rymaniak, Filippo (Aneta) Di Bello, Rossana Rossi, her grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Leafe, Juliana Chapman and Viviana Di Bello, her brother and sister-in-law, Benito and Anna Scarpa and sister-in-law, Barbara Scarpa along with her nieces and nephews, Elise Sopov, Lieutenant Naomi Zepeda, Sandra Gallelli, Rita Merante, Daniela and Nick Scarpa.
