On July 17, the North Bergen Housing Authority held a summer banquet for the residents of Callum Tower, Meadowview Village, Lawler Towers, and Terrace Apartments.
Mayor Nicholas Sacco and Commissioners Hugo Cabrera and Julio Marenco were in attendance.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for residents to get out of the heat and interact with friends, while enjoying great food and music,” NBHA executive director Gerald Sanzari said. “Our Housing Authority team works hard to make these events happen and I am thankful to everyone that joined us.”
The officials who attended also held a ribbon cutting ceremony for a community room at the Theresa Ferraro Building in Meadowview Village. The community room was reopened after the building underwent some recent renovations, including a new roof, carpeting, repainting, vinyl floors, and upgrades to the parking deck and lighting.
“The affordable housing building opened in 2001 and was beginning to show its age,” Sanzari said. “The NBHA along with the building owners, the North Bergen Renaissance Corp, are committed to keeping this location a clean, safe, and premier building for our seniors.”
The building was dedicated to the late commissioner Theresa Ferraro, who also served as a Housing Authority commissioner. Her son and current Housing Authority Commissioner, Anthony Ferraro, was also in attendance at the party.
Sacco thanked Sanzari and his team for their work in keeping North Bergen’s affordable housing communities well-maintained.
“I would personally like to thank the North Bergen Housing Authority for putting on this great event,” Sacco said. “Our seniors are a crucial part of our town and it is important to me to see that they are being treated well. This sense of community is what we strive for in North Bergen.”
The Housing Authority plans to make summer banquets an annual tradition in their lineup of parties dedicated to its senior tenants.
