Rising Star Veronica Swift and the 16-piece Birdland Big Band next up at Summer Concerts on the Hudson

At age 24, Veronica Swift has taken the jazz world by storm and is considered a rising star.  With the spotlight firmly on her, she has a full schedule taking her around the world.  Just last month, she performed with jazz superstar Wynton Marsalis at the Marciac International Jazz Festival in France.

Veronica was born into the business, having toured with her parents, renowned jazz pianist Hod O’Brien and celebrated jazz singer and educator/author Stephanie Nakasian, from a very young age.

In the fall of 2015, Veronica won second place at the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition. The following year she headlined her own show at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center and was a guest artist with Michael Feinstein at Jazz at Lincoln Center with the Tedd Firth Big Band and Marilyn Maye and Freda Payne.

Soon after graduating from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in December 2016, Veronica moved to New York City, and almost immediately started performing every Saturday night at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club, a gig she continues to maintain when she isn’t on the road.

Veronica has appeared on stage with Jon Hendricks, Annie Ross, Esperanza Spalding, Joe Lovano, Bob Dorough, Kim Nazarian, Danilo Perez, and many others.

In addition to performing the Great American Songbook and Bebop and Vocalese classics, Veronica is also a passionate devotee of 20’s and 30’s music and has sung with Vince Giordano, Terry Waldo, and Drew Nugent, to name a few.

Veronica will be joined by one of New York’s best, the 16-piece Birdland Big Band, under the musical direction of Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist David DeJesus.

This concert will take place on Wednesday, August 14th at 7 PM at Lincoln Harbor Park, located just north of the Chart House restaurant directly on the west bank of the Hudson River in Weehawken, New Jersey.

Public transportation, including NJ Transit bus #158, Light Rail, and NY Waterway Ferry will bring concertgoers to Lincoln Harbor.  And for those who choose to drive, free parking is available at the Weehawken Waterfront Recreation Park within walking distance of Lincoln Harbor Park.

The Hudson Riverfront Performing Arts Center, Inc. (HRPAC), a New Jersey Not-For-Profit, presents this summer long series of open-air concerts free of charge to the general public.   Concerts are family friendly.  Limited seating is available; however, audience members are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket, if possible, and encouraged to picnic on the lawn.
